In Portugal, there are many financial incentives to finance renovation projects that promote the building energy optimization. The government program called Edifícios mais sustentáveis Program 2020  is dedicated to individuals who want to invest in improving the energy efficiency of their property in Portugal. Private owners of properties built before the end of 2006 can ask for the refund up to 70% of their expenses related to energy optimisation.

A study cared by Imovirtual reveals that the best parishes to live in the Algarve are Lagoa and Carvoeiro, and safety is one of the aspects most appreciated by the respondents. On the opposite side, the three parishes with lower scores are Olhão, Quelfes and Alvor. These are the conclusions of an online questionnaire, conducted between April and September of 2018, to residents in the national territory with the purpose of objectively assessing their expectations about the quality of life in the different parishes of the country.
