The Formula 1 World Championship will return to Portugal this year 2020, and will take place betwerrn the 23rd and 25th October, 24 years after the last race, and will this time be held at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão. The Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) won on Sunday the 23rd February 2020 the 46th Volta ao Algarve Cofidis, imposing itself in the final time trial, an exercise of 20.3 kilometers, in Lagoa. The Belgian rider rode above 50.504 km/h to close the 20.3 kilometres in 24m07s – the previous best time was 24m09s and was set by Geraint Thomas in 2018. The second in today’s TT was the world champion, Rohan Dennis (Team INEOS), 10 seconds from the winner. Last year’s time trial winner Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) closed the podium at 19 seconds.

Jorge Fonseca Judo World Champion 2019

The Portuguese Jorge Fonseca won the -100 kg world judo title, beating Russian Niyaz Ilyasov in the final of the competition, held in Tokyo on 30 th August 2019. Jorge Fonseca, 26 years, became the first Portuguese to win a World Championship gold medal by defeating Ilyasov, third in the 2018 World Championships. On Saturday, Portugal will be represented by Rochele Nunes, at +78 kg, before the World Cup closing on Sunday with the team competition.

Nations League final 2019, Portugal vs Holland on Monday the 10th June 2019 and Portugal win Nations League with Goncalo Guedes strike enough to beat Holland 1-0 in the second half. Portugal is the great winner of the first edition of the UEFA Nations League. The Portuguese team worked well to win the new Nations League in the final against the Netherlands at Estádio do Dragão. The Portuguease team celebrated its triumph over the Netherlands, with thousands of supporters at Avenida dos Aliados in Oporto, after the conquest of the Nations League, the first trophy of this new UEFA competition.
