Once again Portugal, made it to the headlines, when voted the best tourist destination in Europe at the World Travel Awards, for the 6th time in seven years, whose awards ceremony took place on September 29th 2023 in Batumi, Georgia.

At the same ceremony, Portugal won a total of 22 European awards across the various categories.

Highlighting the Algarve was again the winner of the Best Beach Destination in Europe, Lisbon was considered the Best City Destination in Europe, the city of Porto distinguished as the Best European city break Destination, Madeira was the Best Island Destination in Europe and the Passadiços do Paiva, in Arouca (district of Aveiro), as Best Adventure Tourism Attraction.

In addition to the distinctions for cities and regions, the airline TAP won in the categories of Best European Airline for Africa and South America, the port of Lisbon was the Best Cruise Port and DouroAzul won in the category of Best River Cruise Company.

There were also distinctions for several hotel establishments, including Monte Santo Resort in Carvoeiro Algarve as the Most Romantic Resort, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the Pestana Porto Santo All-Inclusive, won the Best Inclusive Resort category, and the Verride Palácio Santa Catarina, in Lisbon, won as Best Boutique Hotel
