European Le Mans Series titles are decided at the AIA in Portimao
The time has come for all decisions in the European Le Mans Series 2023 and once again the stage of champions will be the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA), in an unprecedented event that the circuit next to the city of Portimão hosts from October 20 to 22, taking place the last two races of this competitive championship, which since 2017 has always had its final round in the 15 corners of the 'Roller Coaster'.
With four dozen machines on the track and more than a hundred drivers competing, the unprecedented weekend will be historic for several reasons, as for the first time in the history of the championship, two races are held less than 48 hours apart.
The 4 Hours of the Algarve on the 20th of October (Friday) and the 4 Hours of Portimão on the 22nd of October (Sunday), will be an unprecedented effort that teams and riders will have to overcome on all fronts of a championship that is not yet decided.
In a squad where there are drivers with history even in Formula 1 , we find the Colombian Juan-Pablo Montoya and Tatiana Calderon, the British Paul Di Resta or the Brazilian Nelson Piquet Junior , among many others from the five continents and to which is added the 'Portuguese armada' defended by Miguel Cristóvã o, Manuel Espírito Santo, Pedro Perino and Rui Águas, all of them with the potential to make the Portuguese flag shine at the end of the two clashes on the agenda.
But it won't just be the European Le Mans Series that parades its speed and colours on what is the most challenging track on the calendar, as on the starting grid will also be the drivers and machines of the Le Mans Cup and also the always spectacular Radical that hold their world finals at the AIA .
Tickets for this fantastic and busy weekend are already on sale on the website of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and cost between 15 and 50 euros for the whole weekend in order to allow followers to follow in the grandstands or paddock the two races of the European Le Mans Series and also the support races that will take place over the course of this unprecedented weekend.
With the first victory signed in the previous round at the charismatic Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the Portimao rider , Bernardo Pinheiro, will also be one of the Portuguese heroes to receive support from the public, he who lines up with the colors of the Spanish team Virage in the Ligier European Series committed to being able together with his teammate, George King, to close the year in the best way with another climb to the top step of the podium in both races to be held in their 'home circuit', they who are second in the championship at the wheel of the JS P4 of the Valencian team.
