Real estate transactions at maximum since nine years

Real estate transactions in Portugal increased 13.5% to 226,617 in 2017 compared to the previous year, and the associated investment rose 33.5% to 24.3 billion euros, to highs since 2008, data released today 06 / 11/18 from the Association of Professionals and Real Estate Mediation Companies - APEMIP. According to APEMIP "The total amount and value of real estate transactions in Portugal in 2017 is the highest value since 2008, when 241,040 properties were sold in the amount of 24.4 billion euros. From that year until 2012, the sector registered successive decreases, starting to recover in 2013. With regard to transaction values, it was the Lisbon Metropolitan Area that concentrated the highest investment value (more than 12 billion euros , 49.8% of the total), followed by the North region (with 4.9 billion euros or 20.3%) and Algarve (with 2.9 billion euros or 11.9%).

Braga, Algarve and Azores are among the top 20 European destinations for North Americans to live, invest and work, according to criteria such as quality of life and health system. The selection of Best European Destinations was released by the US magazine Forbes and was based on “several criteria, including the existence of an international schools, quality of life, the health system, internet connection, proximity to airports with international flights, cost of living, active foreign community and a low crime rate”.

Algarve registers 1 million more beds occupied until August 2016

According to the Portugues Statistics Institute, Algarve hotels registered, in August this year, 3 million beds occupied, 0,7% more than the same period last year. 2 million beds were occupied by foreign tourists, 7,5% more, and 1 million by residents, a decrease of 10,6% in comparison with last year.

According to the State Budget proposal for 2019 delivered on Monday in Parliament, there are new dates for the delivery of three tax: IRS, IRC and IMI. Starting with the IRS, taxpayers will have another month to file their tax return. The deadline is no longer May 31st know it extends to June 30th. This way taxpayers will have more time (ten days) until February the 25th to validate their invoices in the e-factura the finance portal. With the IRC tax there are also changes, the return of the declaration of income after cessation of activity is no longer obligatory 30 days after the company closes activity and becomes the last day of the third month following the end of the activity of the company. The change at the level of IMI, in the State Budget for 2019 determines that whenever the tax is greater than one hundred euros it can be paid in tranches, that is, in 2019, if the value is less than 100 euros, payment can be made a month later in May. For taxpayers who have to pay between 100 and 500 euros they can do so in two installments, in May and November. And finally, for amounts over 500 euros, the payment will be made in three installments, in the months of May, August and November.
