Starting in 2026, all IUC payments (Single Circulation Tax /road tax) in Portugal will be made in February, with the option to split payments over two installments for amounts exceeding €100.

Currently, the IUC is paid in the month of registration of the vehicle, but "many people forget which month they bought the car, or it was purchased second-hand" and this generates delays in payment and fines. The Government has therefore decided to establish a month for the payment of IUC, (Single Circulation Tax /road tax) if it is up to 100 euros, which will be February. If it is above 100 euros, it will be made in two instalments, of equal value, paid in February. and October.

Since 2007, you no longer need to place the IUC stamp on the front window of your car or carry any proof of payment with you. The payment is recorded electronically, making the process simpler and more practical.
