Further to the announcement last Monday 2nd October 2023 regarding the State Budget Law Proposal for 2024 proposes the end of the (NHR) Non-Habitual Resident regime and foresees a new tax incentive for scientific research and innovation.

The Portal das Finanças now has an ‘online help’ feature with automated answers to frequently asked questions, where taxpayers with links to the UK, for example, can ask questions about tax implications following ‘Brexit’.

In accordance with the residence status in force for the post-transition period (1st January 2021 onwards), all UK nationals who are officially residents in Portugal are asked to exchange their current EU residence documents for new ones that explicitly state that they are under the Withdrawal Agreement.
