Foreigners make up 6% of Portugal residents

In 2019 Portugal surpassed the mark of half a million foreign residents, who now represent almost 6 percent of the country’s population, according to a report from the Observatory of Migration (OM), released in December 2020.
Lagoa among “safest destinations in Europe in times of pandemic”

The Algarve municipality of Lagoa has been named one of the safest destinations to visit in Europe in 2021, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to online portal European Best Destinations (EBD). Destinations were selected based on criteria such as “the number of active cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, the number of deaths, health measures, recommendations put in place by the authorities to welcome you in hotels, tourist accommodations, shops and restaurants in compliance with health standards”.

World Travel Awards 2023: Portugal voted once again the best tourist destination in Europe

Once again Portugal made it to the headlines, when won a total of 22 European awards across the various categories. including being voted Best Tourist Destination in Europe for the 6th time in seven years, whose awards ceremony took place on September 29th 2023) in Batumi, Georgia. The city of Porto was distinguished as the Best European Destination for Urban Getaways, the Algarve was the winner of the Best Beach Destination in Europe, Lisbon was considered the Best City Destination in Europe, Madeira was the Best Island Destination in Europe and the Passadiços do Paiva, in Arouca (district of Aveiro), as Best Adventure Tourism Attraction. In addition to the distinctions for cities and regions, the airline TAP won in the categories of Best European Airline for Africa and South America, the port of Lisbon was the Best Cruise Port and DouroAzul won in the category of Best River Cruise Company.
