25 August, 2021 Sports

Holidu has ranked the country according to where you can find the best golf courses and the quality that they present for both professionals and novices in different regions and the Algarve region has once again come out on top as the best golfing destination in Portugal.

With 30 courses in the region and a climate that allows for year round play, the Algarve is considered by many to be a golfers paradise, with many of the courses being in stunning locations. The region has already been bestowed with many international awards and makes it an easy pick for the best golf destination in Portugal.

Lisbon appears in second place in this ranking with 11 golf courses. Although many players visit the Algarve for a golfing holiday, the capital is increasingly asserting itself as a new golf destination. With several courses and clubs in the Lisbon region and most of the best golf courses being located around Cascais, Estoril, Sintra and of course Lisbon.

Taking the last place on the podium is the Porto region, with half a dozen courses. In addition to being possible to find exceptional wines, including the world famous Port Wine, the region’s golf courses take on different characteristics, surrounded by inspiring landscapes. In northern Portugal, golf courses were carefully created and in harmony with nature, often by renowned national and international architects.

In fourth place, we travel south again to Setúbal, where the five golf courses have different characteristics for both professionals and novices.

Leiria, with its four courses, is in fifth place and is a relatively unknown golfing destination in Portugal.

Traveling outside the mainland, the Azores has a trio of courses, where golf and nature are perfectly combined.

Back on the Continent, Braga, with three courses, stands out in the northern region of Portugal, where it is possible to find courses of different configurations and with varying degrees of difficulty.

Madeira was ranked as one of the best golf destinations with three courses recognised worldwide by great players.

In penultimate place in the ranking appears Vila Real, confirming that the North has a strong presence in golf in Portugal. Another region that could not be excluded, with two courses.

Finally, in tenth place, is Aveiro with two golf courses.
